- 1 cup Whole Masoor Dal (brown lentils)
- 1 medium Onion, diced
- 4 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 inch Ginger, minced
- 1 cup Tomatoes, chopped (fresh or canned)
- 2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 3 tbsp Oil or Ghee
- Salt to taste
- Fresh Cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse Whole Masoor Dal thoroughly under cold water until it runs clear.
- Heat oil or ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté diced onion until golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add minced garlic and ginger; sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in chopped tomatoes along with cumin, turmeric, and coriander; cook for about 5 minutes until the mixture is fragrant.
- Add rinsed dal and enough water to cover (approximately 4 cups). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer.
- Cook uncovered for 30-35 minutes until tender but not mushy, stirring occasionally.
