Tuna Melt is a comforting, cheesy sandwich that combines creamy tuna salad with deliciously melted cheese, all nestled between crispy, golden-brown bread. This simple yet satisfying dish evokes nostalgic memories of cozy afternoons spent around the table.

  • Total Time: 17 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 1

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (5 oz) can high-quality tuna, drained
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Swiss)
  • 2 slices sourdough or whole grain bread
  • 1 tbsp butter for grilling

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard. Mix in the chopped celery and shredded cheese until well combined.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread butter-side down in a skillet. Add the tuna mixture on top, layer with additional cheese if desired, then top with the second slice of bread butter-side up.
  4. Grill over medium heat for about 4 minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook for another 3 minutes until both sides are crispy.
  5. Just before removing from heat, add an extra sprinkle of cheese on top and cover loosely with foil for about one minute until melted.
  6. Slice diagonally and serve warm with your choice of sides.
