- 1 cup dried chickpeas (soaked overnight) or 2 cans (15 oz each) canned chickpeas
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 2 medium tomatoes (chopped) or 1 can diced tomatoes
- 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Instructions
- If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight in water. Rinse before cooking.
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté chopped onions until golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add chopped tomatoes and ginger-garlic paste; cook until tomatoes soften (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in soaked or drained canned chickpeas, cumin, coriander, garam masala, salt, and pepper; mix well.
- Pour in enough water to cover and let simmer on low heat for about 20-30 minutes.
- Before serving, stir in fresh cilantro and lemon juice. Adjust seasoning as needed.
