- 6 cups mixed apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)
- ½ cup water
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks.
- Cook down: In a large pot over medium heat, combine chopped apples with water, lemon juice, cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg. Stir occasionally until softened (about 20 minutes).
- Blend: Puree the mixture using an immersion blender or transfer to a blender until smooth.
- Simmer: Return to the pot and simmer uncovered on low heat for 1-2 hours until thickened to your liking. Stir occasionally.
- Jar it up: Pour hot apple butter into sterilized jars and seal tightly once cooled.
