Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook until bubbly.
- Gradually add milk while whisking to prevent lumps; cook until slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in cream cheese until melted.
- Return to low heat, mix in cheddar cheese until smooth, then season with salt and pepper.
- Fold cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well-coated and serve directly from the skillet.
