- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder or paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Boil water in a large pot. Add salt and cook elbow macaroni until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour until smooth; cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually add milk while whisking continuously until thickened (4-5 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar until fully melted.
- Fold in the cooked macaroni until evenly coated with the cheese sauce.
- Serve warm, optionally topping with more cheese or crispy bacon bits.
