Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 4 slices American or Swiss cheese
- 4 slices rye or sourdough bread
- 1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Shape the ground beef into four patties, seasoning each with salt and pepper.
- In another skillet over medium-high heat, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until done to your liking.
- Top each patty with a slice of cheese, allowing it to melt slightly before removing from heat.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread. In a clean skillet, place one slice butter-side down; layer with a melted patty, caramelized onions, another slice of cheese, and top with another slice of bread (butter-side up). Grill until golden brown on both sides.
- Serve warm with fries or pickles.
