- 1 ½ cups cake flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 3 large eggs (room temperature)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup whole milk
- Food coloring (as desired)
- Buttercream frosting (to taste)
- Cute decorations (sprinkles, edible glitter, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans with butter and dust lightly with flour.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream softened butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually alternate adding milk and dry ingredients to the creamed mixture until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- While cooling, prepare buttercream frosting by whipping until light and fluffy; add food coloring as desired.
- Once cakes are cool, layer them with frosting in between and cover the entire cake decoratively.
